Willow Bank Primary Marks Holocaust Memorial Day at University of Greenwich Exhibition

02 Feb 2026

On 27th January, pupils from Willow Bank Primary took part in a deeply meaningful project to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The University of Greenwich invited local schools to contribute work for a public exhibition, and the class was immensely proud to have their work selected.

As part of their learning, pupils wrote diary entries from the perspective of fictional Dutch children, inspired by the style of Anne Frank. Their writing showed remarkable empathy, sensitivity and maturity, capturing the emotional depth and historical significance of the topic with great care and respect. The finished pieces were displayed prominently in the centre of the exhibition.

The exhibition was open to the public at the Heritage Gallery, Queen Anne Court, providing an important opportunity for the community to reflect and remember. During the event, the pupils’ work received extremely positive feedback, with particular praise for the high standard of handwriting and the thoughtful, compassionate tone of the writing.

It was later revealed that this feedback had come from Linda Bird, making the recognition especially meaningful for the children and staff alike.

In addition, Mr Ashley Brett from the University of Greenwich visited the school to personally thank the pupils for their contributions to International Holocaust Memorial Day. He shared animations created by university students the previous year and read a Jewish prayer to the class, helping to deepen their understanding of remembrance and reflection.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils for approaching such an important subject with dignity and compassion, and for representing Willow Bank Primary so thoughtfully within the wider community.
